Do you like the new ION Orchard mall name ?

Background:

According to news reports after the announcement of the official naming of ION Orchard, straw polls indicated that most didn't quite like the name.

From a 18th July 2007 Straits Times article by May Yip:

"...a straw poll of 50 shoppers, branding experts and retail industry players yesterday drew mostly thumbs-down responses - 26 per cent liked the name but 68 per cent hated it. The rest were indifferent."

Perhaps Ms Claire Cher, senior marketing and communications manager of property-based UOL Group, sums it up best at the end of the article:

"The name doesn't bring to mind a shopping mall, but it works because it's different... The fact that we're talking about it, discussing it and debating whether it's a good name or not means that they've done a good job getting themselves noticed."
